Saturnesque Inlaid Live Edge Walnut Console Table

I just finished this Saturnesque Inlaid Live Edge Walnut Console Table! I wish I had a space for it, but since I am quickly on my way to becoming a Furniture hoarder, part with it I must! I Want to keep it, in part, because it was such a blast to work on! I had the walnut slab top in my shop for months, knowing I wanted to inlay some type of planetary design since the grain pattern looked so orbital. I came up with a Saturnesque design made out of green malachite, turquoise, and magnesite. The twin mortise & tenon joints were especially cool to chisel and the splined miter joints came out really well! Now, if I could just find a wood-loving, sci-if geek like me to buy it, lol!! ;D

Inlaid Live Edge Curly Maple & Walnut Bench

within_final_somb
Ahhhhh! It feels so good to finish a piece that’s taken a while! I usually try to whip through furniture, but on this piece, I had to wait on inlay materials, which was excruciating for me, lol! Anyways, here she is, a stunning live edge curly maple & walnut bench (or coffee table)… I call it, “Within”, my conceptual take on the beauty that lies within nature. The chrysocolla inlay came out particularly well & I love how the legs take on different shapes depending on where you’re viewing the piece from! Hope it finds a home soon so that I’m not tempted to keep her!! ;)

Live Edge Ash Wood Side Table – S.O.M.B. Woodworks

Just finished this live edge ash wood side table that I’m calling, “Splitting Giants”… looks like a hobbit commissioned it for the Shire, hehe! It definitely has whimsy to it, which I really enjoy incorporating into the furniture that I build. Who says Fine Furniture has to be serious?! I like the designs I create to be emotive, to come alive in a space! Hope this piece speaks to someone! It has been approved by Chairish curators & will be up for sale on Chairish.com within 2 business days! Link to piece —> here! ;D

Live Edge Walnut Slab Console Table

live_edge_3_sombSo, I’ve always wanted an entryway console table, a place to throw keys, change, sunglasses, etc. when I get home… but, it’s a little hard when you don’t have a formal foyer, lol! Despite that, I tried to create an official entryway in our home using this console table I built, shoe basket, a rug, and mirror! :D

This was a fairly easy build… I didn’t have to chop the tree down and plane the slab, hehe! For the top, I simply found a live edge piece of walnut online, finished it with two coats of high gloss spar urethane, glued a piece of plywood under it to ensure that none of the live edge bark falls off since I don’t know what season it was cut down in + I made a cleat for the install by cutting a rectangle out of this plywood. Then for the rest of this piece, I simply built, veneered, and stained a drawer box out of 3/4″ birch plywood for my little guys’ sunglasses & attached the box with screws onto the underside of the slab. I probably would have left it floating if I didn’t have little monkeys in the house. ;) To finish it off, I added a single hairpin leg to give it a cantilevered look & a modern feel!

What feeling does your home’s entryway convey?
